'Believe in your future...'
Young People Guernsey (YPG) is a Guernsey charity
that identifies and responds to the needs of young people in the
Bailiwick. YPG's first project is a partnership with Barnardo's,
the UK's largest children's charity, to open a youth information,
advice and "one-stop-shop" counselling centre in St. Peter Port for
young people aged 11-16 years.
All funds raised on the island will be used on the island.
Our Mission...
YPG's new centre will open in summer 2012 and will:
· Be a neutral place that young people can access free and which
provides confidential support, thereby enabling them to make
informed choices.
· Be informal, but not purposeless. It is not a youth club; it is
somewhere to go when young people have nowhere else to go but want
and need help.
· Provide a professional, sustainable resource that adheres to the
highest standards. Barnardo's are recruiting and training local
professionals, allowing Guernsey's young people to access
Barnardo's vast resource of experience and expertise, delivered
through a local charity.
· Be manned by full-time by professionals and trained volunteers.
It will open according to need with an emphasis on after-school and
week-end hours.
YPG's objective is that at the new Centre, young people will be
able to find support and advice including bullying, relationship
and family problems, education, substance abuse, sexuality and
sexual health issues, emotional health, self-harming, homelessness,
mental health, careers, sexual, physical and psychological
abuse.
The partnership with Barnardo's and the creation of this Centre is
an important and significant development for young people in
Guernsey.
