All eyes on Guernsey

Friday, 11 October 2019

This week three of our team were at Locate Guernsey’s annual London showcase event to take our promotion of Guernsey directly to the capital.

This engaging event has fast become one of the highlights of the year and is always a positive opportunity to talk about the island.

Keynote speaker Lord Digby Jones spoke with great passion about island life. He talked about the balanced lifestyle and beautiful setting but also about the accessibility of the government and ease of doing business. This clearly resonated with the audience and highlighted important considerations for those thinking about relocating business interests and professional lives to the island.

Guernsey’s President of Policy & Resources, Gavin St Pier, also addressed the audience and shared his personal story of relocating his family to the island and not looking back since.

Gavin shared the six key reasons for moving to Guernsey, all of which tally with conversations our Open Market team regularly have with clients:

  1. Transport – the island is well served by transport links, including being the only Channel Island with an air link to Heathrow
  2. Digital – innovations such as 5G are on the near horizon for Guernsey and will equip the island for a digital future
  3. Trade – Guernsey’s Government is working hard to secure a UK trade agreement for the post-Brexit world
  4. Reputation – the island’s strong reputation for financial services provision and meeting international regulatory standards is recognised around the world
  5. Public services – Guernsey boasts world-class public services including schools and healthcare
  6. Constitutional relationship – the island enjoys a positive relationship with the UK Government but constitutional responsibility for the island is with the Crown. This maintains the island’s independence

Clearly Guernsey has a lot going for it and we at Livingroom have spent more than 10 years selling the positives of island life to those from the UK, Europe and further afield.

Our guests on the day were impressed with the event:

“Guernsey has made a good impression on me and I will certainly be advising my clients to consider the island as a possible place to reside. I hope to bring my wife for a short break soon.”

“Great venue, good food and company, and some passionate advocates for moving to Guernsey. I suspect you may see more than a trickle of applicants from the UK over the next few months…”

Our thanks go to Jo Stoddart and the team at Locate Guernsey for putting on such a fantastic event which we found to be hugely positive.
