It’s a question we hear often from prospective island residents beginning their property search with Livingroom, and of course we always tell them it is. Our team absolutely love living in Guernsey and have spent many years convincing others of its beauty, tranquillity and security.
Now, the expat community has spoken about the merits of living here, and the results are emphatic!
HSBC conducted its annual Expat Explorer Survey in April and May of this year and Guernsey came 5th overall in the 2021 league table for expat living. The survey gathers the views of expats living in 46 countries and territories around the world and, this year, features the views of 20,460 expats.
The survey is great news for the Channel Islands as Jersey came 6th in the table, with the islands only being beaten by a top four of (in order) Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.
So what makes Guernsey so great? The island ranked highly in HSBC’s ‘aspiring’ and ‘future outlook’ metrics, which relate to personal finances and sentiments about the future, respectively.
Clearly, expats who have settled here are optimistic about where Guernsey is going and that it will continue to provide a stable home for them.
Lifestyle factors, especially a feeling of security, have become more prominent over the last two years, so it’s great that people feel safe here in Guernsey, just as they should.
But the island offers so much more than a sense of stability. When our Open Market team shows prospective residents around the island they experience people’s first impressions of the island: beaches regularly stun, the coastal views cause audible gasps, and the pretty capital of St Peter Port charms visitors.
Relocating can cause a change in outlook and can improve happiness – the survey notes that two thirds of expats report a better quality of life since relocating – and Guernsey is the perfect place to make a new start and enjoy a different pace of life.
